![]() You can key with them in specific ways, but as the light falls off really fast, I would not. They are really nice pushed through a silk on full blast, makes a nice area light. I utilized these in multiple ways, providing soft fill or overhead ambiance. The most output from 10-feet away in a controlled environment is about 8 footcandles.Īny of the preset colors of the 2-foot Q-rainbow only put out about 5 footcandles, really negates their use on slow film stocks. ![]() They are not really useful in lower iso settings. They do get hot, toasty even! Careful wrapping with gel. I feel comfortable at the current rental rate exchanging some of my smaller tungsten lamps for these.ĭMX buggy still, but that is to be expected. I left the heavy Skypanel S60 on the truck most of the time as these will do the same job except in very specific circumstances. The effects built in can be made to work well in multiple situations. The controls are nice and the build quality is very well done. The 2-foot Q-Rainbow and battery powered CrossFade/Q20S are very nice as a quick Tungsten or Daylight soft source if shooting with Digital cameras in the iso 800+ range. I would not recommend trying to use these with anamorphics required a healthy stop. The 4-foot Q-Rainbow in daylight mode at full brightness is bright enough to be useable at iso 500, with decent speed lenses (T2.8 minimum). The firmware is buggy, but its also on 0.93, so Tim and QS will help you out if you need. The first time I have lit and used Wireless DMX features for an entire sequence. I have just wrapped a feature shoot and for three weeks we have used nothing but HMI's and Quasar Tubes. Quasar tubes are very interesting, and I might even say useful.
